As I walked in the door my husband said, “How did it go?”I turned to him with tears in my eyes and said, “It was one of the best experiences I have had in my life.”
This particular night was one of the best experiences I’VE HAD because it was true ministry.
I am at a point in my life that I MUST make a difference. Life has served me too many curve balls and I have obtained many lessons. It is my DUTY – my calling to give back. As I write this I get all misty eyed because it’s so important to the Kingdom of God. It’s bigger than the 4 walls of the church building. Preaching to each other (or as they say - preaching to the choir).
Ministry is outreach. What can I do in my community? What need is not being met? Who is hungry? Without clothes? Motherless…fatherless? How can I make a difference?
Sitting pretty on a pedestal is great. Wearing the best hats and fancy designer clothes is wonderful, but who are we reaching? Church as usual should be dead. Most people don’t even know why they go to church. When you ask them they say because their Mom & grandmother attended and that “it’s just right” to do on Sundays. That’s so sad.
GOD’S SQUAD
Each week I get tons of invitations to visit ministries / events going on in the community and even abroad.
Every so often I get this one invitation from one of our readers to join“God Squad“ at the Norfolk Detention Center. Every 3rd Saturday God Squad ministers at the Norfolk & Virginia Beach Detention Center. There is always a conflict with my schedule. But this time I was able to move some things around to attend.
And I am so glad I did. To talk to the detainees was a blessing. Contrary to what most believe, the detainees that I was able share with knew what they wanted out of life. They just needed some guidance (and to be loved on). We did mock interviews with the boys & girls and walked them through the interview process.

At the end there was a chance for the detainees to give their lives to Christ. I closed my eyes and began to pray as all the volunteers did. When I opened my eyes 15 new souls were added to the kingdom. You know the bible says “WHEN ONE SOUL IS ADDED THE ANGELS GO TO REJOICING” But that night 15 were added. And it wasn’t at a big fancy church. It was at the Norfolk Detention Center and I was able to contribute is some small way.
Kudos to God Squad, for the work they are doing in the community.
