A few years ago there was so much excitement about the book and the movie “The Secret”. Personally, I never saw the movie or read the book. I already knew the secret.

MLM companies were using “The Secret” to pump up their sales staff and independent distributors.

I can remember being part of this MLM organization (won’t name drop) and in the meeting we were told to go run out and purchase the book and the movie. “It will change your life”, they said. Oprah was promoting, along with several well known movie stars. It was the craze for that hour.

But the secret was what we already knew.

Scanning through my emails I came across an email from a friend.

It’s entitled “The Secret”. I hope it blesses you.

The Secret

One day, one friend asked another,

“How is it that you are always so happy?

You have so much energy,

and you never seem to get down.”

With her eyes smiling, she said,

“I know the Secret!”

“What secret is that?”

To which she replied,

“I’ll tell you all about it,

but you have to promise to

share the Secret with others.”

“The Secret is this:

I have learned there is little I can do

in my life that will make me truly happy.

I must depend on God to make

me happy and to meet my needs.

When a need arises in my life,

I have to trust God to supply

according to HIS riches.

I have learned most of the time

I don’t need half of what I think I do.

He has never let me down.

Since I learned that ‘Secret’, I am happy.”

The questioner’s first thought was,

“That’s too simple!”

But upon reflecting over her own life

she recalled how she thought a bigger house would make her happy, but it didn’t!

She thought a better paying job

would make her happy, but it hadn’t.

When did she realize her greatest happiness?

Sitting on the floor with her grandchildren, playing games, eating pizza or reading a story, a simple gift from God.

Now you know it too!

We can’t depend on people to make us happy.

Only GOD in His infinite wisdom can do that.

Trust HIM!

And now I pass the Secret on to you!

So once you get it, what will you do?

YOU have to tell someone the Secret, too!

That GOD in His wisdom will take care of YOU!

But it’s not really a secret…

We just have to believe it and do it…

Trust God!

Why Does It Minister to You?: The lyrics remind us that we have no other help. All of our help comes from the Lord. The least we can do is lift our hands in total praise. Even when we don’t understand what we are going through. He will give us peace in the storm.

Lately it seems like everyone is an expert in some capacity. Be it social networks, finance, making money online, being a work at home mom etc….

The list seems to go on and on. There are even “God Experts”. They can quote scripture at the drop of a dime.

It’s funny now, but I used to be so embarrassed when it was time for the word. I would be praying, “please let me know where the scripture is” and then they would do it. They would tell us to go to “Obadiah”….OMG.” While sweat beads formed on my forehead I would think ” O bah WHO?”

Over the years I have learned that it was so much more than just knowing where the books of the bible were. It was about relationship and living the word.

Recently I posed a serious questions to our contributing writer, Kim Gibson. Read the question and her response below.

When I was asked what does the word mean to me I had to stop to think.  I thought, I should automatically have an answer and a quick reply.  But, I had to reflect on the times that I was confused, perplexed, dealing with sorrow, mourning or just adjusting to change.  It was then that I found my answer.  The word is hope to me.

Hope when I was afraid and feeling discouraged, because the word says “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Hope when my job was at risk and I was under attack both mentally and emotionally, because the word says “No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse.”

Hope and understanding when my marriage ended after 12 years.  I prayed and asked for answers and God began to reveal to me my faults, however, I was even encouraged then because I knew I served a God of great grace and great mercy.  I found peace in His  word that says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Hope (noun) - A feeling of expectation and desire for something to happen.
